“I wish we could have had you here for three more days or weeks! The information was great, and just enough to make me want more.”
Isaac Lines, Yukon Kuskokwim Health Center Dental Clinic, Bethel, Alaska

“Really great workshop. One of the best I've ever attended.”
Joi Standiff, KEYS, Bethel, Alaska

“When medical residents from Oregon Health and Science University began rotating through the Old Town Clinic at Central City Concern, providers at the clinic were both happy for the help and worried that the physicians-in-training would at best not ‘get’ their patients and would at worst alienate the often quite physically and emotionally fragile clients seen in their indigent care clinic. Their concern was that many physicians don’t ‘meet patients where they are’ and that many wouldn’t have patience with incremental changes often needed to change behaviors surrounding addiction and homelessness. Fortunately, as a result of that concern, John Christensen of the Pilgrims Partner Foundation taught several of us at OHSU and CCC how to both use and teach motivational interviewing to medical residents. Since receiving that training, we have in turn trained 5-10 residents a month in the principles and practice of motivational interviewing, and we have noticed that it has also significantly affected the way that we interact with our own patients on a daily basis. John’s training was critical to the success of our project and has made a large and extremely positive impact on patient care at Old Town Clinic and at OHSU.”
Jessica Gregg, Central City Concern

“Thank you for a lovely day that passed so quickly. The opening exercise was meaningful and enjoyable. . . . The role playing was especially helpful. It made me realize how easy it is to be distracted and too rushed to respond to the signals for appreciation and recognition. And I certainly need the reminders to relax, to exercise, and to do some pleasurable activities. . . . Thank you for the opportunity to attend your workshop and for making it so accessible here in Wapato. Blessings on your work!”
Sr. Pat Daly, Marie-Rose House

“Thanks, you all did a great job facilitating this retreat/training. I will be able to view the organization in a more holistic way.”
Hmong Women's Heritage Association staff

“Jake’s presentation on ‘Boosting Productivity’ gave me new insights as I deal with volunteers. I am grateful for this opportunity.”
Sr. Marina Rose Parisi, St. Peter Claver Parish

“The section on communication skills, especially dealing with difficult people—we have a need for that in our agency.”

“You did a great job!”
Roz Babener, Director, Oregon Community Warehouse

The presentation on “Marginal Performers helped [me] to see the potential not just the negative in my partners in the non-profit world. [It] reminded me of the importance of seeing the good in volunteers, not dwelling on their tardiness, slowness, etc.”
Rosemary Rief, Northwest Harvest

“I have more hope that the organization will grow. . . . I have more motivation to work and will take initiative to improve.”
